News: England replace Jonny Wilkinson with Toby Flood

News Article

17 March 2010England replace Jonny Wilkinson with Toby FloodEngland have dropped talisman Jonny Wilkinson from the side to face France this weekend, bringing in Toby Flood as his replacement.

It is only the third time in his 12-year international career that the fly-half has not been picked.

Toulon star Wilkinson has been part of a back line that has struggled for consistency as England have recorded a draw with Scotland and defeat to Ireland in their last two contests.

The national side head to Paris for Saturday's (March 20th) match knowing they cannot win the RBS Six Nations, a factor that appears to have influenced coach Martin Johnson's selection.

As well as overlooking Wilkinson, Johnson has banished Ugo Monye, Mathew Tait, James Haskell and Delon Armitage from his starting line-up, possibly in a bid to give vital experience to younger players.

Wilkinson's most famous moment came in the final moments of the 2003 World Cup Final in Australia, when he sent the rugby ball between the posts to secure England the trophy.
