England bowler James Anderson has revealed he was pleased to return to top form in the one-day game earlier this week.
The paceman starred with the cricket ball at the Oval as the national team wrapped up a comfortable 110-run victory over Sri Lanka.
It was particularly important to Anderson to put in a good performance after a disappointing time in one-day cricket over the winter.
He took four wickets in south London – the same number he achieved in five appearances at the World Cup earlier this year.
Despite continued impressive form in Test cricket, success in limited-overs fixtures has been surprisingly rare in recent months.
"It was a frustrating winter in the one-day form of the game for the team and for me personally. I felt like I didn't perform to the standards I set myself," Anderson stated.
England now face a further four 50-over matches against Sri Lanka, starting with tomorrow's (July 1st) tie at Headingley.
