England have beaten Germany 1-0 thanks to a goal from star player Alex Danson in the Champions Trophy.
In a tense encounter against their old rivals, England came out on top after Danson used her hockey stick expertly to fire home.
The result means England have a win to their name in the tournament and propels them to the top of Pool D, alongside Australia.
Germany enjoyed the better of the first half, with Janine Beerman threatening Beth Storry's goal but only managing to hit the post.
The Germans may have been ruing that miss when Danson pounced to put England in the lead in the 50th minute, turning and slotting past Yvonne Banks.
Danson will be hoping to repeat her heroics when the women take on Australia today (July 1st) in a match that will determine who wins the pool.
However, England cannot take home a medal from the event, following a disappointing 0-0 draw against China earlier in the week that prevented them from competing in the top groups.
