England's under-20 team has narrowly lost out on becoming the Junior World Championship winners, after going down to New Zealand.

The young stars, dressed in rugby clothing, lost 23-20 to the Kiwis in the final of the event in Padova, Italy.

Rob Hunter's side managed to score three tries – two of which came from Christian Wade, with Henry Thomas bagging the other – and seven points came from the boot of George Ford.

England started the match in a bright and purposeful manner and their game possessed plenty of intent from the first whistle.

But New Zealand gradually came back into the tie and did enough to record a famous triumph.

Perhaps the turning point of the match came when prop Ben Tameifuna forced his way over the line for a try for New Zealand just before the half-time break.

New Zealand is due to host the World Cup this year, with the prestigious event scheduled to get underway in September.
