2012 Salix bats are all about performance, all bowed following the shape of the driving area and all benefitting from CTS (contoured turned sanding). They represent the most labour intensive, performance laden, and exquisitely finished bats available today. These are 21st century English handmade bats - fluid yet precise, a hybrid of past skills, modern aesthetics and the determination to drive forward.

FALX (. . . a curved blade, like a sickle or scythe, or the single handled draw knife)
The foundation of the Falx is a sharp spline from handle to toe, with a thick edge which follows the shape through the back of the bat, so the back profile is mirrored in the edges. The deep bow and full, domed back lead to the sharp Venom style toe giving strength and weight to the lower driving area, yet the concave sanding maintains the crucial pick up. This bat drives the ball beautifully but is wonderfully balanced. It is traditional and modern fused - a classic, almost convex back with contemporary, angled face and edges. To achieve an easy pick-up with this amount of wood behind the entire width and length of the driving area requires absolute skill and hand shaping, but creates the strongest and most stable shape in play.

This year, all Players and Grade Ones are natural finish, all Performance and Select grades are workshop prepared.

Workshop preparation
The preparation by Salix which takes the bat to the point of knocking in by the owner. Linseed waxed during finishing then Bat Vaxed at the toe before application of our strong UK made anti-scuff. This gives the bat a sound foundation for the first season with oiling required before the second seasons usage.

All top coaches agree with suppliers and manufacturers that choosing the correct size bat is vital for the proper technical development of young cricketers. It is important that the bat is not too long and more importantly not too heavy to hinder correct stroke play and good technique.
