Ordering Online

How do I order?

Ordering online with Barrington Sports is quick and easy:

  • Use the menus and banners to get to an area of interest.
  • Then click on filters at the top of the product pages to find exactly what you are looking for � you can filter by size, colour, price, brand, stick shape, willow grade, shoe type and many other criteria depending on what you are looking for.
  • By clicking the drop down arrow you can then select the quantity of each item that you wish to add to your basket. If you want to add new items to your basket just hit 'continue shopping'.
  • Once you have everything in your basket click proceed to checkout and enter your email address. You can choose to become a full account holder, or fast track via the guest process to confirm your order.
  • Our checkout process will give you an estimated delivery date at the time of ordering.

What do I do if I am not confident ordering online, or my internet is having problems?

No problem, we have an experienced team of customer service advisors who can happily process a telephone order for you. Just call +44 (0)1565 650269.

How will I know if Barrington Sports have received my order?

As soon as you have confirmed your order you will be sent an email confirmation containing your order number within a couple of minutes of order completion.

How do I know what the status of my order is?

You can track your order by going to our website and entering your order reference number in the Track Your Order section. Your order reference number will begin with the letters BA and can be found on your order confirmation.

What is my order number?

Your order number will have been given to you on your order confirmation email and begins with the letters BA. Don't worry if you no longer have your confirmation email as you can see your entire order history by logging into your account on our website.

Can I cancel / amend my order?

You may cancel or amend your order as long as it has not yet been picked and packaged so be quick otherwise our speedy warehouse team might already have processed your order. To cancel or amend your order contact our customer services team by calling +44 (0)1565 650269.

How do I change details on my account?

You can change details on your account by Signing In through the website. Here you will find options to update details about your personal profile, addresses, payment methods and which newsletters you are subscribed to.

I have forgotten my password?

Don't panic! When you click the Sign In from the 'My Account' menu at the top of every page you will find a 'forgotten password' section where you can enter your email address and receive an email containing a link that will allow you to modify your password. Please note a repeatedly entered incorrect password will suspend your account after 3 attempts. In this scenario, please feel free to call our customer service team who will be able to verify your identity and re-open your account.

I would like to close my account?

No problem, you can contact our customer service team via any method and a member of our team will be more than happy to action this for you.

If an item is out of stock is there a way I can be notified once it is available again?

Our 'Stock Watch' function is a great way to receive stock updates on product lines that are currently out of stock in our warehouse, but can be sourced directly from our suppliers.

If the item that you desire appears with a 'stock watch' button rather than a quantity on the drop down, it is likely that we will be able to re-stock in the near future. By clicking stock watch and either signing in or entering an email address, the item will automatically be added to stock watch. An email will be sent to you the moment the product comes into stock.

Don't worry, your email address will not be used for any other purpose. Please be aware that an item listed as SOLD OUT will not be replenished due to lack of supplier availability and as such cannot be put on stock watch.

Payment

What are the payment options?

We currently accept VISA, VISA Debit, Mastercard, Maestro and American Express credit/debit cards as well as PayPal.

When will I be charged?

Funds will not be debited from your account until the goods are ready to leave our warehouse.

What currency will I be charged in?

We currently only make currency transaction in Great British Pounds Sterling (GBP).

Will VAT be applicable to my order?

VAT will be applied to your order if your delivery address falls within the European Union. Some BFPO addresses and some areas outside of the EU Fiscal Territory such as the Channel Islands will not incur VAT. VAT is charged at the current UK rate of 20%. My card has been declined?

A number of potential scenarios may lead to credit/debit card being declined including:

  • Incorrect card details
  • Our payment gateway beng unable to contact your bank
  • Failing the Verified By Visa or Mastercard Securecode system
  • Insufficient funds in your account

We first recommend reviewing your card details. Once you are sure they are correct, re-try the checkout process. If the card is still declined, please contact your bank to see whether there are any issues with your account or their systems.

Is it safe to save my card details?

Yes - When you use your credit/debit card on our system we securely exchange your card details with our secure payment gateway partner SagePay for a unique token, which will then allow you to use the same token on return visits without re-entering your payment information. We only store the last four digits of your card number to aid recognition and we NEVER store your card security code (CVV2).

For added protection we also process card payments through both the Verified by Visa and Mastercard Secure Code systems.

Shipping

When will I receive my order?

Orders placed before 3pm will be dispatched on the same day on weekdays. Items ordered over the weekend or on bank holidays will be dispatched the next available working day. If you have selected a UPS, Citylink or Interlink as your delivery option and live one the UK mainland you can expect delivery the following working day. Deliveries via Royal Mail can take two-three working days from despatch.

Can I track my order?

Yes, simply use our Track Your Order facility.

Can I collect my order in store?

Currently only if you call in advance to arrange - please notify us immediately if you wish to collect your order in store. We do no currently offer an online only click and collect service.

My order is showing as delivered but I have not received it?

We have worked hard to pick the best couriers available to us. They have a very high set of delivery standards which we hold them to. Occasionally however, the courier may leave your item with a neighbour without you specifically requesting them to do so. If you have not been left a calling card notifying you of this, please contact our customer service team immediately and we will investigate the delivery for you.

Will my order qualify for free delivery?

Orders being shipped to the UK mainland with a value of £75.00 or over will qualify for free delivery. For deliveries addresses outside of the UK mainland please see our Shipping Page to see whether your order will qualify for free delivery.

Where does Barrington Sports deliver to?

What will it cost to ship to my country?

Will my order incur any customs import duties?

Orders shipped to coutries outside of the European Union will likely incurr import duties. The price of these duties will be depenedent on the local rate of each country. Barrington Sports takes no responsibility for Import Duties and will be payable by the intended recipient.

Does Barrington Sports ship to Post office boxes, Military bases or Freight forwarding addresses?

We do ship to British Forces Post Offices (BFPO), and may ship to other non-BFPO Military bases, PO Boxes and Forwarding Addresses, but we always reserve the right to refuse an order. In these circumstances we will cancel your order and notify you by email.

Returns

How long have I got to return my item?

At Barrington Sports we want you to feel satisfied every time that you shop with us, so we make our returns policy simple. You can return or exchange any goods bought from the Barrington Sports website within 14 days from when you receive them, provided that they are 'as new'. Items that have been damaged in transit, have a manufacturers fault or where you've received an incorrect item, should be returned to us immediately upon receipt. Once we receive the item and can confirm the problem, we will send a replacement to you (subject to stock). In cases where we no longer have the item in stock, we will offer an alternative product or a full refund.

How do I return an item that I have ordered online?

Collect Plus is a convenient service that allows you to drop off the items that you wish to return to any Collect Plus location, 7 days a week, early to late. There are over 5000 locations nationwide.

  1. Review our Further Guidance & Notes section to ensure we are able to accept your returned goods.
  2. Print and complete the Returns Form (downloaded via the button below)
  3. Carefully and securely repackage your returning items and Returns Form (in line with our Returns Packaging Guidelines)
  4. Visit our dedicated page on the Collect+ website, enter your order details, create and print a label and find your nearest drop off location.
  5. Attach Collect+ label to parcel.
  6. Drop Parcel at your nearest participating shop free of charge.

What if I am unable to use Collect Plus?

You are more than welcome to send your returned items back to us via alternative methods. For customers not using the Collect Plus service it is your responsibility to cover the cost of returning goods unless prior contact is made regarding a faulty item.

  1. Review our Further Guidance & Notes section to ensure we are able to accept your returned goods.
  2. Print and complete the Returns Form (downloaded via the button below)
  3. Carefully and securely repackage your returning items and Returns Form (in line with our Returns Packaging Guidelines)
  4. Detach the Shipping Label from the Returns Form and securely stick it to the exterior of your package
  5. Take your parcel with Returns Form enclosed to your nearest Post Office.
  6. Choose a suitable method of postage, i.e. Recorded or Registered (you are advised to take out suitable insurance for the goods you are returning).
  7. Retain your Proof of Postage in case the parcel is lost in transit.

How do I return an item that I have purchased in store?

If you are unable to bring your item back to our store you can use our online returns service. As you will have no order reference number please just use the reference SHOP followed by your full name e.g SHOPJOHNSMITH

Can I return an item that I have received as a gift?

You can certainly return an item that you received as a gift but please be aware any refunds will be returned to the payment method used to purchase the original item. If you would like to exchange the item please make sure you detail on the Returns Form the address that you would like the replacement sending to.

How long does it take to process my return?

Items returned with Collect Plus will be returned to us between 3 and 5 days. We aim to process returns within two days of being received.

I returned my item but I am unable to see the refund on my bank statement?

Refunds can take up to 48hrs to show on your statement once actioned and will show under the name Northgame Ltd. If you are still unable to see your refund please contact our customer services team for more information.

Product Information

HOCKEY:

My stick has broken, what should I do next?

The nature of hockey means that sticks are subject to severe impacts and consistent wear. Needless to say if you believe the damage to your stick is unjustified please return it to us using the returns guidelines in the link. Please ensure to give a detailed description of how the damage occurred. Our returns department will then assess the stick and contact you as to what our next step will be. As a general rule a stick that breaks severely within the first 3 months of use is likely to be deemed faulty.

How do I know what length stick to get?

Junior sticks:

It is very important not to have a stick that is too long and as such we recommend that the stick, when placed to the player's side, should be parallel to the point of their hipbone. Conveniently, sticks are sized in length so simply measure from the ground to the point of the player's hipbone in inches and you will ascertain you size.

Senior sticks:

With seniors the task becomes slightly more difficult; there are two main sizes in senior sticks - 36.5 inches and 37.5 inches. Predominantly the decision comes down to players preference, the shorter stick gives greater control for dribbling, but a longer stick can give you a longer reach and allow you to play in a less crouched position. Our tip is always to try both sizes if you can borrow sticks from friends. 37.5 inches will be too tall if when you play you feel the end catching on your midriff. We have demo sticks available in store which are all 36.5 inches tall and light in weight as this is the most common purchase specification.

I am confused about which bow shape to get?

Mid Bow: This is the standard shape and is suitable for all positions.

Low Bow: It is likely that you will know if you require a lowbow, the lowered position makes dribbling and aerial shots easier and tends to be preferred by forward players and drag flick specialists.

What percentage of carbon should I be looking for?

Composite hockey sticks are made from a mix of fibreglass, carbon and kevlar. A higher percentage of carbon will give the stick a greater rigidity and thus more power. Kevlar offers better impact protection and shock reduction, whilst fibreglass is more flexible but offers greater durability.

Can I try the hockey sticks in store?

Absolutely - we are very proud at Barrington Sports to offer our customers a demo version of every stick on sale and a netted area with a goal to try them in. All of the demo sticks are 36.5 inches tall and light in weight as this is most common purchase specification. We want you to be 100% happy that you have the right stick for you, so spend as much time as you need trying them out and any of our experienced members of staff will always be on hand to offer you advice and help you fine tune your decision.

Do I need a mouthguard?

Absolutely! Although it is not a requirement in adult leagues, in many schools you will not be allowed to play without a mouthguard. Our mouth guards are designed to mould to your specific mouth shape giving you a comfortable fit. Once the adrenaline kicks in and the referees whistle blows, you won't even remember that you are wearing one.

CRICKET:

My cricket bat has broken, what should I do next?

As cricket bats are made from wood (a natural material), it is to be expected that the surface will experience natural superficial cracks on the face. Needless to say if you believe the damage to your bat is clearly detrimental to performance, please return it to us using the returns guidelines in the link. Please ensure to give a detailed description of how the damage occurred. Our returns department will then assess the bat and contact you as to out next step. Often we take the direct view of the brand, which can additional time before we reply with feedback. As a rule bats in your possession for longer than a season will be deemed to have experienced significant use and therefore be non-refundable.

How do I know what size cricket bat to purchase?

Height can give you a good indication, particularly for juniors [see our size guides]; however the main consideration is probably on balance overall weight and feel. Some bats will have a lower middle making them feel heavier to pick up; this will suit a front foot player on low bouncing wickets, but be sure you can manage the weight of the bat off the back foot too. A good test is to take your stance in the ready position with the bat lifted, now takeaway your bottom hand. If you feel like you cannot control the bat with your one hand then it is probably too heavy. We understand that not all of you are able to visit out store to try the bats, so please feel free to make use of our free returns service in order to get a feel for the bat and if it's not right and hasn't been used in any way, we will happily refund or exchange it for you.

Why are some bats a lot more expensive but look the same as others in the same range?

The bats are graded by the manufacturers dependent on the quality of the willow, a more expensive bat will generally have a straighter grain, less imperfections, more consistent colour across the blade and be more responsive to the ball and have greater 'ping' (rebound) when striking it.

What do I need to do in order to prepare my bat prior to playing with it?

Oiling: All natural faced bats MUST be treated using raw linseed or a specialist cricket bat oil/wax. The main purpose of oiling is to maintain moisture levels within the blade, and hence reduce the chances of cracking and splitting. Light coats should be applied to the face, edge, toe and back of the blade, taking care to avoid the logos and splice area. Generally two or three coats should be sufficient � approximately half a teaspoon. Each coat should be allowed to dry into the blade, which should be kept in a horizontal position before the next is applied.

Knocking-in: All bats are pressed, however 'knocking-in' is VITAL even where bats state they are pre-prepared. This is the process by which the fibres of the willow in the face and edges are compressed together to form a barrier that protects the bat against the impact of the ball. Effective 'knocking-in' will significantly improve the performance and increase the lifespan of the bat.

The 'knocking-in' process should be undertaken carefully using a special bat mallet or an old quality cricket ball. The bat should be repeatedly struck (with gradually increasing force) against the striking face of the blade paying particular attention to the face around the edges and toe. The edges or toe should not be struck directly at right angles to the blade. Glancing blows off the face to round the edge should be used. Patience is key! Do not strike the splice, handle, end or rear of the blade. This stage should take in the region of six hours, although every bat is different.

The bat should now be ready to graduate to use with an old ball in a netting or catching environment. Please note if the ball leaves seam marks in the face then further knocking-in with a mallet is recommended.

RUGBY:

What type of boots should I be wearing for the position I play?

Front row and second row forwards: Traction is paramount - Choose a sturdy boot with an 8-stud configuration for optimum grip.

Back row forwards: Whilst traction is still key agility is also important for quick breaks from the back of the scrum. Again an 8-stud configuration is preferable but look to a lighter weight boot.

Scrumhalf and Flyhalf: Two factors are importance here - speed and kicking accuracy. Choose a lightweight boot with specific grip on the upper to give control when kicking. Unless the ground is going to very hard a stud is preferable to a blade in order to give you a good plant when striking the ball.

Centres, Wingers and Fullback: Speed is everything here, a light boot with a multi stud or blade configuration further reduces weight whilst giving stability in all directions for sidesteps and bursts of acceleration.

What size headguard should I get?

A headguard must fit tightly in order to function correctly. Most will have a tie at the back to give a tighter fit and size guides can be found on all of our headguards by clicking the tab within in the product description.

Do I need a mouthguard?

Absolutely, you will not be allowed to play without a mouthguard. Our mouth guards are designed to mould to your specific mouth shape giving you a comfortable fit. Once the adrenaline kicks in and the referees whistle blows you won't even remember that you are wearing one.

NETBALL:

Why should I wear a netball trainer rather than a normal trainer?

Specific cushioning and support in a netball trainer will give you shock absorption when landing and support when moving from side to side, that a running shoe cannot. Most netball shoes will also have a pivot area on the sole which allows you to swivel more easily, reducing friction and increasing the shoes durability. Most Netball shoes also utilise non-marking rubber outer soles and incorporate multiple flex grooves that allow you to grip the court and change direction quickly and easily.

RUNNING:

How do I know whether to look for a neutral or structured cushioned shoe?

Neutral and structured shoes refer to whether you, as a runner 'over pronate' or not. Most people 'over pronate' and if you do then you require a structured cushioned shoe in order to correct your gait cycle and prevent injury. To find out if you over pronate or not, a simple video analysis of you running can be done in our store. However if you are not within traveling distance you can do a simple wet foot test. This is not an extensive test and should not be used instead of a video gait analysis when possible but it will give you an indication as to how 'flat footed' you are. Being 'flat footed' is one indication that you are over pronating and need a structured shoe. Neutral or high arched feet would indicate the need for a Neutral cushioned shoe. Simply wet the soles of your feet and stand on a dark smooth surface, then match your arch shape to the ones below. Be careful not to slip over.

What is a natural shoe?

Natural shoes are designed for runners that run predominantly on their forefoot and as such do not need the cushioning in the heel of the shoe. It is quite a specific style of running and if you are not sure it is always best to go for a shoe with heel cushioning, as wearing a natural shoes with a normal gait cycle can lead to severe injuries.
